Miss Teenage Canada Makeup Provided by Modern Makeup

Miss Teenage Canada makeup proudly provided by Modern Makeup

Modern Makeup is proud to announce we will be returning as the official makeup provider of the Miss Teenage Canada 2017 pageant!

Last year, team Modern Makeup had the pleasure of dolling up all 54 of Canada’s regional winners!

There are many more factors the judges take into account than just looks including charity fundraising and blogging to name a few.

Every year I have been blown away by the maturity and kindness of these young girls.

The delegates are required to fund raise for a charity of their choosing.

The winner will have many responsibilities once she is crowned, many of which revolve around local community events and fund raising events.

Last year’s winner Sami Pierre was a well deserved winner!

Passionate, intelligent and motivated to make a difference, Sammi has made Canada proud.

Heres a look at Sami’s “Most Photogenic” Photo Shoot.

Her makeup here was done by Modern Makeup team member Alexandra and hairstyling done by myslef, Jennifer Turner of Modern Makeup.

When getting Sami ready for this shoot I remember instantly being impressed with Samantha’s positive attitude and articulate nature.

MISS TEENAGE CANADA 2016

Happy Friday loves!

I’m sure you all are aware that Modern Makeup was a proud sponsor of Miss Teenage Canada 2016, and I’m here to give you a bit of a behind the scenes of all the hard work and perfection that our artists displayed throughout the pageant.

Our team was up bright and early  on the first day to meet up at the Mississauga Holiday Inn Dixon Road on the top floor to do some set up and wait for our contestants to file through. Personally, I have never seen so many makeup palettes, hair extensions and so many bottles of hairspray in one place before. However, the room was filled with so much energy, talent and creativity that regardless of the fact that we had 54 models who needed to get their hair and makeup done before 4 o’clock, we managed to make it happen with only a short pizza break.

Below are some snippets of the days progress.

These girls ranged form ages 14 to 18 and came from all over their country with their own unique story in their own beautiful way, and competed for the Miss Teenage Canada title. It was mind blowing to see the confidence that was portrayed by each young lady and the way they attempted to build each other up during an intense time like this.

Pageant day took place at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at the Exhibition. Artists were each allotted a room underneath the stage where they got their girls prepped for their big night. It was another whirlwind of cosmetic craziness, but a rewarding night indeed.

The winner of the 2016 Miss Teenage Canada Pageant was Samantha

It was a hectic few days but the team managed to pull it off with patience and grace. I know this event would have not been possible without the wonderful artists who were part of #teammodernmakeup and I would like to take a moment to recognize some of our incredible artists!

Toronto’s Graffiti Alley Photo Shoot

As much as I love using photos that show off my makeup skills with perfect lighting and fine detail; lately, I have been feeling like my portfolio could use some more colourful images to spice it up a notch.

These days I am very obsessed with tight curls and lots of volume! Maybe it’s because I was born in the 80’s and it seems like those 80’s styles are slowly creeping back, maybe I’m just bored with loose waves because I do them almost every day for boudoir shoots.

These spiral curls I created certainly took some time to achieve. Here is how they started out:

hair before

After lots of hairspray and a little bit of teasing, the above curls turned into something special and were exactly what we were looking for!

Our first location for the day was a balcony with a view of the Toronto lake front and also a great view of the train tracks. Here’s a few shots from the first location:

The thing you don’t know about these images is that it was actually -15 degrees celsius that day… We all froze our tails off, but we got some great images and warmed up afterwards with a big bowl of Pho!

Graffiti Alley in downtown Toronto is really something special. If you’ve never been before you should definitely make the trip and bring your camera! It is so colourful and fun and there are so many hidden images for you to find.

Here are some of my favourite shots from Graffiti Alley:

We had a couple more locations we wanted to shoot at, however; the hair took exceptionally long to perfect and we started to lose our light fast! We managed to make it down to Polson Pier just as the sun was going down. Words cannot even describe how bitterly cold it was once we got by the waterfront! We just took a few quick shots here and then ran back to the car and got toasty warm again!

Modern Makeup Owner Places 2nd in National Competition

In August 2015 Modern Makeup I participated in a national competition in search of Canada’s next top makeup artist and am very proud to announce that I was awarded the runner-up position!

Contestants were judged over a three-week period by Sheriff Cosmetics on their work on models for both Top Model Search Canada and Miss Teenage Canada 2015.

The competition kicked off with over 80 models from all across Canada in the Top Model Search Canada pageant who were looking to get noticed by top modelling agencies from all over the globe. Models were judged on many different attributes including interview skills, photo shoots, runway and of course their overall look.

Check out some of the photos from behind the scenes from Top Model Search Canada 2015:

During the Top Model Search Canada pageant I provided makeup for both the runway and for the photo shoot portion of the competition. Here are a few of the photos I have seen in which I provided the makeup for! Enjoy!

Top Model Search Canada is a wonderful opportunity/experience for young models across the country who want to seriously get noticed. One thing that stood out to me amongst this group of girls was their kindness and their desire to succeed. I watched new friendships form that will last a lifetime and got to be a part of an unforgettable experience.

Just a few days after the Top Model Search Canada pageant came to a close I was back doing makeup for the Miss Teenage Canada 2015 pageant. This time, young representatives from all across Canada were in Toronto hoping to be crowned the next Miss Teenage Canada and move on to represent Canada in the Miss Teenage Universe pageant.

When you think of beauty pageants you may assume it’s all about the looks, but after being so closely involved and hearing all the girls’ stories, I would argue that being a contestant in a pageant like Miss Teenage Canada is one of the toughest and most rewarding experiences a young girl can be a part of.

These young women travelled far and wide, the majority of whom travelled alone without any family or friends and showed so much dedication and strength. They were put through rigorous rehearsals and had a full week of a schedule in which practically every second of their time was spoken for.

Check out some of the photos from the Miss Teenage Canada 2015 pageant:

I was very proud to have had the honour to participate in both of these incredible modelling pageants and to meet so many of the amazing young women who were competing. Coming home with second place is something I feel very proud to have accomplished. When I first entered the competition, I thought it would be a great experience and that’s all I was really looking for out of it, was the experience. As the competition got well underway I started to realize that I was one of the most talented artists in the competition and that I may have a chance at doing quite well. The realization alone was rewarding enough for me and although I did not come first, second will do just fine! I still feel like a winner just by having this wonderful opportunity to participate in two fantastic Canadian events.

Red, White and SNOW! Outdoor Winter Boudoir

It certainly was a cold day for an outdoor photoshoot but these girls toughed it out like champions!

Armed with bra, panties, boots and a stunning white faux fur cape these two girls tackled the most extreme conditions and were rewarded with some absolutely breathtaking images to cherish.

Take a look at just a few of the stunning images from this cold winter wonderland:Modern Makeup - Innovative Makeup Designs

(What you don’t know about the above image is that I am actually tucked in behind her and was tossing the bottom of the cape out in order to get that great movement.)

Who’s idea was this anyways?

The only one inventive enough to come up with a plan to take two models out in their underwear and photograph them in -20 weather is Danielle Renea from Danielle Renea Photography. A beautiful change of pace from your typical boudoir photo shoot. Together, we go above and beyond for each and every one of our clients, making sure to deliver photos that exceed their expectations.

When the chattering of teeth became too much the two models would switch places, one retreating to the nearby heated vehicle.

Anyone who knows me knows that I feel strongly that there is a time and a place for red lips. The ombre red lip above was one of my favourite red lips I’ve done to date. I love the way this look came together and I am very happy with the outcome.

12 Days of Christmas – Day 1 – “Cranberry Gingerale”

Good day lovers,

My name is Alicia and I am a first year business student who loves all things classy and creative. I joined #TeamModernMakeup last summer and have been loving every second. When I’m not blogging about beauty on our Modern Makeup blog, you can find me documenting my life over at my own little space in the internet cleverspice.ca.

On behalf of Jen and myself, I can say we are so excited to launch our first ever Holiday Look Book! Over the last few weeks we have been devoting hours and Fridays to bringing Jen’s crazy and incredible visions to life through her amazing talent.

Our premiere look entitled “Cranberry Gingerale” is pure inspiration for all you beauties who want to push out of their usual neutral colour smokey eye comfort zone.

But first we must start off with the before pictures:

bareface

We started off this process like any other and used Revlon’s Photoready Foundation in shade 006, and sponged it all on. After this, Jen applied Revlon Photoready Eye Primer + Brightener and brushed a bit of ELF High Definition Under Eye Setting Powder right under my eye and extended it right onto the tops of my cheeks. I’ve never seen someone boost about a product so much as she does this one.

Eyeshadow is prone to drop onto your cheeks and when it does you can brush it away with this powder and it will prevent staining and it photographs well!

Next up came the main focus of this look. The eyes! Jen used the MAC Prep + Prime 24 Hour Extend Eye Base and went on to facilitate some kind of magic with MAC’s Eyeshadows “Humid”, “Cranberry” and Stila’s “Breeze”, and sealed it all up with a Smashbox Eyeliner in “Green Gold”.

Jen applied finishing touches with Loreal Voluminous – Waterproof – Carbon Black on my lashes, and used ELF Eyebrow Kit in “Light

IMG_0763

She swept off the white flakey goodness right after we finished with the eyes, and started the contouring process using MAC Sculpting powder in “Bone Beige”. A tad bit of blush used in Blended Raizin and Peaches by MAC.

She smeared on my new favourite lipstick, BITE’s Luminous Crème in Shiraz.

And ta daaa!

So there you have it beauties!

We hope you enjoyed this post and be sure to check in for the next 12 days (duh) because we’ll be posting a new favourite festive look every day leading up to Christmas. Be sure to let us know your thoughts and wonderful opinions on this look and if you’ll be using any of our pictures just give us a quick shout out.
